Hemp, whose scientific name is Cannabis, is characterized by the presence of a very robust fibrous component in the stem and the production of a series of functional chemical compounds that possess pharmacological activity. On these properties is based the human use, with heterogeneous purposes, of this botanical species, which began over 10,000 years ago. In addition, hemp is not only used for medical purposes but is also widely used in industries: textiles, paper, food, cosmetics and construction.
